Classroom-2-Boardroom: Going High...despite the despites.
3-minute read: Your Open Secret to going high, despite the lows.
Hi friends👋🏾
Happy Tuesday ✨. Welcome to Issue 8 of Classroom-2-Boardroom. This is a 3-minute read- no more, no less. 👌🏾
👉🏾In last week’s issue, we agreed that “when they go low, we go high”. In today’s Issue, we’re diving into a few ways to help you live up to that mantra. Lessgoo
A gentle reminder that this Issue was, once again, inspired by my favorite superstar and Forever First Lady- Michelle Obama. ✨
Going High, Despite the Despites.
Here’s the catch: 🤌🏾 It’s fairly easy to talk the walk. In fact, anybody can talk. You don’t need a college degree to talk the walk. 💁🏾♂️
But it gets slightly un-fun when it comes to walking the talk and tying our words with actions. 🤷🏾♀️
Don’t get me wrong- I’m not saying it’s easy. Of course not. It’s hard. It’s odd. It’s the opposite of everything easy. 🫡
So how do we raise the bar every time someone/something stoops so low to get under our skin❓
How do we consistently go high, stay high, and fly high❓ Here are a few ways:
Sci te ipsum (Know Thyself) 🕺🏾:
I was going to say “control yourself” but the reality is you can’t control what you don’t understand. Listen to your emotions.
👉🏾Remember, our minds are like the ocean. Emotions are like waves on the surface of the oceans—natural but temporal. 🤒
Though they show us what’s happening on the surface, they do not represent what’s happening beneath. 🙅🏾♂️
Don’t confuse the waves on the surface of the ocean for the stillness at the bottom. Let your emotions move through you, not move you. 👌🏾
Tap the Power of Saying No 🙅🏾♂️:
Here’s what they don’t teach us about saying no.
Granted, saying “YES” means you’re ready to take responsibility for the next action items. 👌🏾
But saying “NO” equally means you’re ready and prepared to take full responsibility for the action items you don’t know (your unknown unknowns) and the uncertainty that follows. 🤔
As Tim Ferriss says, “What you don't do determines what you can do.”🔥
Saying no to going low doesn’t come easy. It’s so easy to stoop so low than it is to fly so high.
You don’t need discipline to think low and act low. 🙅🏾♂️
But my friends, talk about going high, staying high, and flying high…you know what’s up. 🫡
What should you say no to? Well, I don’t know all the things you should say no to. But one thing you might want to consider is saying no to energy vampires.

Lastly, please do not do it alone; fall back on your Kitchen Table.
If you this is the first Classroom-2-Boardroom Issue you’re reading, quickly catch up on "Issue 7 where we talked about “Building Your Kitchen Table” .
If you try to go high, stay high, and fly high alone, you are prone to experiencing burnout. 😞
Because as Simon Sinek said “Burnout happens when you’re trying to do all of the things you see other people do without realizing that they have deep meaningful relationships that you can’t see. 🎯💯
And you think, falsely, that you have to do it alone– that’s when burnout happens. 🙅🏾♂️
Because you as an individual don’t have the energy to do it alone. 🙅🏾♂️
But [through your Kitchen Table] and in community, relationship, and friendship, what you can do is remarkable.” 🚀🚀
That’s it for this week. Here’s our quote of the week. 👇🏾
The darker the night, the brighter the skies.
