directions n destinations
3-min read: same dreams, similar destinations but different directions.
Hi friends ๐๐พ
Happy Wednesday,
Welcome to Issue 15 of Classroom-2-Boardroom. This is a 3-min read, no more no less. ๐
This week, weโre exploring the role of directions & destinations in our zero-to-one lifestyle.
Directions & Destination
Itโs almost the end of the year and this is the time people come up with New Year Resolutions (#New Year New Things). โจ
That said, during this process, most people write their desired destination for a goal. ๐
Very rarely do we take time to dwell on the direction towards those destinations. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
But hereโs the kicker- without a direction, your destination is at best a dream- a ticket to Alaska without leaving your room. ๐
Yes, you need a destination to inform your direction, but you need your direction to eventually get to your destination. ๐
Knowing your destination gives you information but without your direction, that information holds no power. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
Thatโs why some people are so brilliant all they have is knowledge. ๐
But also, I was reminded that even as we think about destinations, it's easy to get caught up in other people's destinations, thinking that their path is ours. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
But, in reality, your direction is as unique as your fingerprint, and it holds the key to unlocking your personal destination. ๐ค๐พ
You may have similar destinations with your friends, but thereโs no guarantee youโll have the same directions. ๐

Enter Your Inner Compass ๐ฏ๐ฏ
Granted, life doesn't come with a built-in GPS or a ready-made navigation system but you do have a compassโthe inner voice that guides you. ๐ซก
Your compass doesn't point to a specific destination; instead, it directs you on the path that aligns with your values, passions, and purpose. ๐ฏ
But while compasses are fantastic at providing a general sense of direction, they have limitations. ๐ง
Yes, compasses tell directions but the downside with compasses is that thatโs just it- they give you your bearing as the crow flies. ๐๐พ
They give you a straight-line direction but life is more than 180 degrees. ๐
๐พโโ๏ธ
Itโs 65.5 degrees today and 76.9 degrees tomorrow. ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ
Yet, thatโs not enough. Compasses only feed you with information based on your current position. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
Itโs centered around you. You canโt use another personโs compass to determine your direction.
You need something more.ย ๐๐
Enter Maps. ๐ฏ๐ฏ
While compasses provide direction, they don't always offer a detailed plan for the journey ahead. ๐
But thatโs fine.๐
Maps are combinations of directions for a destination.
The great thing with maps is that yes they give you a combination of directions to a destination, but they also contain alternative routes, pathways that have been explored by others in the past.ย ๐บ๐พ
In this case, your map can contain the lessons you learn from the failures of others as you work toward your own experiences. ๐๐พ
Your map can contain the directions youโve tried in the past that turned out to be a dead end. ๐ค๐พ
It's not a rigid blueprint, but rather a dynamic collection of experiences, lessons learned, and potential routes. ๐ฏ
The keyword here is dynamic.
Yes, constantly evolving. Imagine if Google Maps had the same content it had 10 years ago with no adjustments. ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
Just as life is constantly evolving, so too should our maps. They should be dynamic, adapting to new information, experiences, and changing circumstances. ๐ฏ๐ฏ
Lastlyโฆ ๐ฏ๐ฏ
One last thing, using your map effectively requires two crucial skillsโzooming in and zooming out. ๐ง ๐
In a masterclass, I did with ALX Software Engineering (reached 2000+ people ).๐
I talked about the importance of having a grasshopper view and a helicopter view and knowing when to switch between those two.
๐๐พ Sometimes, you need to zoom in, focusing on the minute details of your journey. ๐
๐๐พ Other times, you must zoom out, gaining a broader perspective and seeing the bigger picture. ๐ง
In one of the upcoming issues of C2B, Iโll go into why like a grasshopper and acting like an airplane carries more secrets to success than you know. ๐๐พ
Thatโs it for the week.
Until next time,
Donโt Forget to be Awesome,
